The main theme of the +20th Anniversary of DDPA shows that there is an interconnection between the present situation of the fight against racism and discrimination; and how the COVID-19 disease affects our fights. Komnas HAM as an NHRI supports the Government of Indonesia to take firm action to tackle racial discrimination and expression that appear in public spaces, especially on the internet and social media. Since the number of internet users and the massive spread of false news and information (hoaxes) that can lead to horizontal conflict. Komnas HAM supports the government to reinforce national institutions and the administration of justice to provide effective remedies to victims and to ensure that victims have access to legal assistance. The Commission offers mediation as an alternative remedy and a solution to achieve reconciliation. The Commission urges the States to ensure that their efforts on handling the Covid-19 pandemic are not against the fight to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance. The distribution of vaccines, social assistance, stimulus package, and health care services must not be delivered on a race, ethnicity, and tribe basis. Komnas HAM believes that such efforts will lead to dignified and human rights-based Covid-19 handling. Thank you.
