Human Rights Commission
Te Kāhui Tika Tangata | the New Zealand Human Rights
Commission (the Commission) was set up in 1977 and works
under the Crown Entities Act 2004 and Human Rights Act 1993.
Independent of government, the Commission is accredited
as an ‘A status’ national human rights institution under the
Paris Principles.
Our purpose is to promote and protect the human rights of
all people in Aotearoa. We work for a free, fair, safe and just
Aotearoa, where diversity is valued, and human dignity and
