Chairperson’s message In the past year, individuals and communities across the Asia Pacific have faced significant challenges, including the ongoing impacts of climate change, geopolitical instability, and a rise in online threats within the digital landscape. In this context, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) have remained dedicated to delivering on their mandate of protecting and promoting human rights. Our members have consistently advocated for the rights of all individuals within their countries while collaborating to uphold human rights throughout the region. At the APF, we are committed to supporting our members through a range of initiatives and services, including accreditation support, capacity development and capacity assessment programs, and facilitating collaboration between our members on a diverse range of human rights issues. In the past year, this has included a program to assist NHRIs in protecting the rights of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), who have faced increasing threats and reprisals. Through a range of initiatives, our members have provided valuable insights into the regional landscape for HRDs, helping our members to safeguard their rights. Additionally, we facilitated collaboration through the APF Virtual Dialogue Series which enabled our members to share best practices and strategies for addressing pressing issues related to digitalisation and digital rights. Our Human Rights Community-Led Development Project also supported NHRIs in the Pacific to engage with local communities on various issues, including the impacts of climate change. This past year, we were also proud to see a number of our members achieve A-status accreditation and re-accreditation, with other APF members committing to strengthening their compliance. I am inspired by the courage and dedication of our members, particularly in their efforts to support one another during crises. This past year, APF members demonstrated their solidarity with the NHRI of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, issuing statements that underscored our network’s strength and shared commitment to addressing human rights violations. As we reflect on the past year, I extend my gratitude to our member institutions, partners, and supporters. I look forward to our continued collaboration in advancing our shared goals. Your partnership is invaluable as we work together towards an Asia Pacific where everyone can enjoy their human rights.
