Chapter 2 - Report of the Complaints, Monitoring and Inquiries Group (a) Research Methodology The research methodology involved gathering relevant data through surveys and reviewing existing practices and procedures of the prisons concerning the right to health. Visits were conducted to 24 prisons throughout Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, and a total of 5484 prisoners (male and female) were interviewed. This number includes 893 prison and 51 medical staff respectively. At present, the data collected are being compiled and analysed. A full report detailing the health situation in Malaysia’s prisons as well as recommendations to include international best practices will be released in 2015. COMPLAINTS AND MONITORING DIVISION 1. RESOLUTION OF COMPLAINTS (a) Statistics Over the year, the Commission received a total of 717 complaints at its Kuala Lumpur (409), Sabah (279) and Sarawak (29) offices. Of these, 15 were in the form of memoranda.
