Preliminary Part I Section 1 An Act to establish the Australian Human Rights Commission, to make provision in relation to human rights and in relation to equal opportunity in employment, and for related purposes Part I—Preliminary 1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986. 2 Commencement This Act shall come into operation on a day to be fixed by Proclamation. 3 Interpretation (1) In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears: Aboriginal person means a person of the Aboriginal race of Australia. act means an act done: (a) by or on behalf of the Commonwealth or an authority of the Commonwealth; (b) under an enactment; (c) wholly within a Territory; or (d) partly within a Territory, to the extent to which the act was done within a Territory. affected person, in relation to a complaint, means a person on whose behalf the complaint was lodged.
