Essays on Human Rights
on student self-governance organizations (e.g.,
academic achievement or no demerit record),
even though those barriers are illegal. Based
on the current social development in Taiwan,
campus cultural diversity must be addressed in
future human rights education policies. This is
particularly important. On one hand, there have
been a growing number of immigrants. On the
other hand, indigenous cultures are continuously
reconstructing their autonomy. Cultural pluralism
is now the main trend. However, little response
has been made to current issues of human
rights education. The human rights situation of
indigenous or immigrant students on campus
had received very little attention. There is a need
to renovate human rights education.
What is even more problematic is that the
government has not invested much in family
human rights education. A great number of family
human rights issues are involved among the
international human rights conventions currently
introduced into Taiwan, particularly the ICESCR,
CEDAW, and CRC. The protection of family
human rights requires education, and the idea
of family human rights needs to be sowed into
the social fabric, so as to render complementary
policies effective.
