voters’ lists, and consequently cannot cast their ballots, and asked them not to go to the election
centers. At first glance, the SMS appeared real, as if the official authorities concerned have issued it.
17. Consequently, the Supreme Committee for the General Supervision of the Soundness of Elections
has quickly considered these messages incorrect and fake, and that it would deal with those, who
have sent them, according to legal procedures. The Committee sent SMS messages calling for
ignoring any suspicious messages on boycotting the elections, and urging all voters to participate
in the electoral process. The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic
Security in the Ministry of Interior issued a statement that a number of telephone numbers used
in broadcasting fabricated messages about deleting the names of citizens from election lists were
detected and monitored.
18. The statement pointed out that search and detection has led to the identification of those behind
these messages; and that the investigations indicated that there were a number of perpetrators
of such crimes within the Kingdom of Bahrain and in Iran. These perpetrators hacked a number
of servers in order to carry out this operation. Legal proceedings are underway, and they were
referred to the Public Prosecution. The statement added that monitoring and follow-up indicated
that Iran is the source of (40000) emails aimed at affecting the electoral process negatively.
