Activities in performance of Commission’s functions Heading: substituted, on 1 January 2002, by section 5 of the Human Rights Amendment Act 2001 (2001 No 96). 7 Commission determines general nature of activities (1) Subject to the role of the Minister in the process of setting and monitoring the strategic direction and targets of the Commission under Part 4 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, the members of the Commission acting together determine the strategic direction and the general nature of activities undertaken in the performance of the Commission’s functions. (2) The Chief Commissioner is responsible to the Commission for ensuring that activities undertaken in the performance of the Commission’s functions are not inconsistent with determinations of the Commission. Membership of Commission Heading: inserted, on 1 January 2002, by section 5 of the Human Rights Amendment Act 2001 (2001 No 96). 8 Membership of Commission (1) The Commission consists of the following Human Rights Commissioners: (a) the Chief Commissioner; and (b) not less than 3 and not more than 4 other Commissioners. (1A) There must be a Commissioner, other than the Chief Commissioner, appointed to lead the work of the Commission in each of the following priority areas: (a) disability rights (the Disability Rights Commissioner): (b) equal employment opportunities (including pay equity) (the Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner): (c) race relations (the Race Relations Commissioner). (1B) A Commissioner must lead the work of the Commission in any other priority area that is designated by the Chief Commissioner, and the Chief Commis‐ sioner may designate an area of work as a priority area only in accordance with the strategic direction and the general nature of activities determined by the Commission under section 7(1) and after consultation with the Minister and the other Commissioners. (2) The Commissioners are the board for the purposes of the Crown Entities Act 2004. 17
