Residents noticed that police in uniform had also begun to assemble in the area, but reported no other local government officials were present. Approximately 20 families decided to voluntarily vacate prior to forced demolition, with the rest remaining to defend their residences. Others pleaded with police and the demolition team to refrain from the demolition until negotiations could take place. At around 9:00am the demolition team proceeded to remove residents from their dwellings by force, causing injuries to many residents, including women and children.
