HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL
Implementation steps
1. The students are divided into groups of 3 to 4.
2. The teacher shows pictures of nutritious and non-nutritious food. He/She can refer to
examples of food, which can be made into picture cards, in Diagram 1 on page 37.
3. The students in each group must discuss the food that should be eaten regularly and
food that is unhealthy if excessive amounts are consumed. They must also think of the
importance of eating a healthy and balanced diet.
4. A representative from each group explains the results of the group’s discussion
to the entire class. The representative must provide answers to the following:
i. Food that should be consumed
ii. Food that is not good if consumed in excessive amounts
iii. The importance of eating a healthy and balanced diet

5. At
to
the end of the activity, the students are given the opportunity
provide their self-reflection on the results of their discussion.
Among the questions to ask the students are:
i. Does the food that you eat daily contain nutrients that your body requires?
ii.
What are the types of food that you like? Are they nutritious?
iii. Do you prefer the food that you pack from home or the food that you buy in the
school canteen? Why?
iv. What are the types of food in the school canteen that you think are nutritious?
v. What are the types of food that you think should be sold at the school
canteen?
6. The teacher can share with the students Article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of
the Child concerning the right to health. At the same time, he/she should stress how
safeguarding one’s health is also the responsibility of each individual.
