HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. The students are divided into groups of 4 or 5. 2. Each student in the group is asked to use the learning aids (if necessary) to play the following roles: i. Student A: You have only one hand (place one hand behind your back) ii. Student B: You don’t have any hands (hands tied behind the back with a cloth) iii. Student C: You cannot see (blindfolded with a handkerchief) iv. Student D: You have only one leg (stand one-legged) v. Student E: You do not have any legs (kneel down on both knees) 3. The students are asked to internalise their role as a PWD. 4. Each group is given 10-15 minutes to perform different daily activities. To save time, the activities are carried out at stations. The following are the suggestions for the station activities: i. Station 1: Buying food and eating at the canteen ii. Station 2: Playing a type of sport or game (such as playing football) iii. Station 3: Revising (such as reading and writing) iv. Station 4: Performing creative activities such as drawing and colouring 5. The students are reminded that there are no winners or losers for this activity. 6. The students are encouraged to help their group members to carry out the activity. Discussion/Presentation 7. Each member of the group must narrate his/her experience and feelings when playing the role of a PWD. 8. The students are given feedback and the values related to their self-reflection are emphasised. Conclusion 9. The teacher concludes the activity by emphasising the rights of the child as well as human rights that are relevant. 13
