HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. The students are divided into groups of 3 to 4. 2. Each group chooses a different theme from the following list: (i) A child’s right to education (refer to Articles 28 & 29 of the CRC) (ii) A child’s right to health (refer to Article 24 of the CRC) (iii) A child’s right to a fair and balanced life (refer to Article 6 of the CRC) (iv) A children’s right to practise his/her own culture (refer to Article 30 of the CRC) 3. The students are given additional explanation concerning the chosen theme. The reference material on the above themes is available in the appendix on page 10. 4. Each group is required to produce a drawing based on the chosen theme using its creativity (for example: stick figures, cartoons, abstract art or any other form considered suitable). Discussion/Presentation 5. Each group representative is asked to explain the meaning of the drawing produced by the group. 6. The drawings are displayed around the classroom (gallery walk). 7. At the end of the gallery walk, the students will self-reflect on the rights of the child. Conclusion 8. The teacher concludes the session by emphasising the rights of the child as well human rights learned from the day’s lesson. 9. The teacher also needs to apply the values learned from the lesson. 10. The teacher can share additional information and specific facts concerning human rights. 9
