NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION A myriad of atrocities have been doled out by the CPN-Maoists. They include kidnapping children from the schools and using them in the armed conflicts. Likewise, the Maoists have abducted the activists of political ideologies different from theirs, and forced them into the training camps. Kidnapping schoolteachers, and extorting them as well as from civil servants, farmers, and labourers are other atrocities of Maoists. They also levy annual pay from every ex-armyman on pension. They are also found to have resorted to severe torture if the victims would refuse to pay the amount. The rebels are also using children as human shields, forcing pregnant women, elderly people and children into rallies and processing. The monitoring has also reported the use of children as militia in the armed conflict, and sexual mistreatment and exploitation of women. Likewise, the indefinite strikes (bandh) of industrial institutions, schools and transportation has deprived people of their rights to work and living.
