JAMAKON Conducted 235 Courtyard Sessions at the Grassroot level: JAMAKON supported the trained Community Facilitators from different NGOs to conduct a series of Human Rights Awareness events through courtyard sessions among the community people. The courtyard sessions were implemented in the selected unions of Rangpur, Nilphamari, Madaripur, Gopalgonj, Magura, Chudanga, Rajshahi, Norail and Khulna districts through PNGOs. 235 courtyard sessions were held where 4700 persons attended of which 80% were female. From the experience of implementation of the courtyard sessions, JAMAKON realized that such programmes should be conducted in more places involving more persons. Training for the Journalist on Human Rights Journalism: JAMAKON organized 4 trainings and 3 thematic sessions for journalists on themes like human rights journalism and role of media in promoting human rights issues from 12 May to 3 June of 2014 in Dhaka. 81 journalists, of which 13 were female from print, electronic, radio and television attended in these trainings.. Apart from this, 77 journalists, of which 20 were female attended in three thematic workshops. The themes of these workshops were: • Women Rights and Media (23 Participants) • Child Rights and Media (28 Participants) • Minority Rights and Media (26 Participants) The objective of the workshop was to improve skills relating to monitoring and reporting on human rights issues and also to build the capacity of Journalists 28 Human Rights Conference in Barguna on human rights reporting. During the two days long training journalists were given orientation on fundamental freedoms, different human rights issues, the mandate of JAMAKON, the role of media in promoting human rights, human rights reporting and professional ethics. In the end, the participants acknowledged that the training and workshops has contributed in improving their knowledge and skills on different aspects of human rights including human rights and media reporting.
