Discrimination in getting admission in school (Suomoto Dha. 29/21) NHRC noticed the advertisement on qualification and regulations for getting admission in Mohammadpur Preparatory School. In the advertisement, the school required that the weight of the applicants should be between 13 kg and 21 kg: all teeth should be in good condition; the student should be mentally and physically fit. These things are contradictory to UN convention on PWDs, article 33(1) of persons with Disability Rights and Protection Act 2013 and National Education policy 2010. Whereas the state has recognized coordinated education rights of PWDs, publicizing the advertisement and discriminatory qualifications are not accepted at all. This can be termed as the violation of the rights of the PWDs. The school authority reported to the NHRC that the school had been continuing its activities with honesty and integrity. The requirements mentioned in the advertisement were for ensuring proper age of the students. After getting NHRC’s letter, they withdrew other requirements. They promised to be aware of the fact in future. The school authority also informed that 25 Special Children were studying at the school. They regreted for their unwished mistake. Three offspring of one family are chained for 10 years (Suomoto 05/21) Daily Ittefaq reported that three children of one family were detained for 10 years. They were intellectually disabled. Poor old parents could not take care of them and could not provide food for them. They urged for government’s assistance. NHRC thinks that this case is very inhuman.
