Annual Report 2016 3.1.2. Internal Meetings Meeting with Nagorik Uddyog European Union Delegation visits NHRC On August 10, 2016, NHRC Chair Kazi Reazul Hoque, Members Md. Nazrul Islam, Ms. Nurun Naher Osmani attended a meeting with NGO Nagorik Uddyog led by its Executive Director Zakir Hossain. The meeting discussed about the areas of cooperation between NHRC and Nagorik Uddyog on Dalit’s rights. NHRC Chairman said, “It is very important to pass Anti-Discrimination Act to ensure Dalit’s rights in our society.” Konstantinos Vardakis, Minister Counsellor, Head of Political, Trade, Press and Information, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh visited National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh office to meet NHRC new Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque. In the meeting Md. Nazrul Islam, Full-Time Member, NHRC was also present. Discussion with Women with Disabilities Development Foundation National Human Rights Commission met the Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDDF) at Commission’s conference room on 16 August 2016. Ms. Shirin Akhter, Chairperson, WDDF and Ms. Ashrafun Nahar Mishty, Executive Director, WDDF and 5 other members of the organization came to meet the new Commission and placed their points with request to the Chairman as to take measures for ensuring rights of disabled women. They presented some recommendations including claims of ensuring quota for people with disabilities in public jobs, accessibility of disabled peoples in footpath, transports, bridges and over bridges, advocacy for inclusion of disabled women in all policies and enactments on women etc. 17 Kazi Reazul Hoque at first briefed Mr. Vardakis about the activities, priorities and achievements of the new commission. He mentioned that in the changing circumstances, NHRC had extended its priorities by enlisting awareness raising activities on extremism in the priority list. He also informed that against every case of human rights violation NHRC was raising its voice and actively taking actions. Mr. Vardakis informed the Chairman that European Union wanted to set its Human Rights strategy on Bangladesh consulting with NHRC and Civil Society organizations. He also showed interest of working together with NHRC for the promotion & protection of human rights in the country.
