would create economic value and contribute to a healthy ecosystem and strong communities. The companies that integrate sustainability principles into their businesses would also be listed in the stock exchange. Statistics shows that sustainability ethics and programmes contribute positively towards their short and long-term values. Businesses that fail to report or to meet the criteria over time may be removed or unlisted and in long run, will disappear from the market. The RTD reveals that despite substantial standards of human rights, the reality on the ground is that human rights violations such as union busting/bashing, discrimination, mistreatment of migrant workers and refugees are common. Although the primary responsibility for protecting human rights rests with the government, the businesses equally share the responsibility to ensure that they respect and maintain human rights throughout their supply chains. All businesses, regardless of their size or where they are based, should “avoid causing and contributing to adverse human rights impacts through their own activities and address such impacts when they occur.” 2. FOLLOW UP ON THE NATIONAL INQUIRY INTO THE LAND RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES I n d e m o n s t r a t i n g i t s c o m m i t m e n t s t o w a rd s i m p l e m e n t i n g t h e recommendations made by the Commission in National Inquiry (NI) report, the government established a Cabinet Committee on Native Land Rights, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Even though the Cabinet Committee was established in 2015, the Committee only met once in 2016. Nevertheless, the Commission continued its engagement with Jabatan Integriti dan Tadbir Urus Negara (JITN), formerly known as Bahagian Integriti dan Tadbir Urus (BITU), to obtain information on the progress of the NI recommendations. Following the discussion with JITN, the Commission was able to bring along JITN in its meeting with peoples, particularly indigenous peoples to update the community regarding the implementation of the NI recommendations.
