Middle-aged and Elderly Women 31. The labor force participation rate for women aged 25 to 29 in Taiwan exceeded 90 percent between 2018 and 2020. Thereafter, due to factors such as marriage and childbirth, women’s participation rate decreases rapidly with age, resulting in a lack of financial independence and pension protection for middle-aged and elderly women, who face the risk of impoverishment; in cases of marriage dissolution, economic security is heavily impacted. Recommendation 23 The government should analyze the reasons for the impoverishment of middle-aged and elderly women, conduct an overall assessment of the gender impact on the pension system, and propose specific improvement measures to protect the economic security of middle-aged and elderly women.
