Legal Bangladesh has a very progressive Cons�tu�on, robust laws, and policies that would fundamentally promote and protect human rights if implemented to the fullest. Achieving judicial independence is crucial for gaining public confidence in the legal system of any country. However, in recent years, judicial reforms have increased the independence manifolds in Bangladesh. In addi�on, there is a window of opportunity for the NHRC to recourse to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court to assert and expand human rights. The NHRC has various quasi-judicial powers, including summoning human rights viola�on perpetrators. NHRC using these powers to provide redress to the complainants of the human rights viola�ons. Environmental There is increased global a�en�on toward environmental conserva�on, awareness, and an in�mate rela�onship between human rights and the environment. This is because it is now beyond dispute that climate change caused by human ac�vity nega�vely impacts the full enjoyment of human rights. Climate change has profound impacts on a wide variety of human rights, including the rights to life, self-determina�on, development, food, health, water and sanita�on, and housing. Therefore, there is a need for the Commission to be part of the environmental conserva�on discourse by engaging the environmental actors and also enhancing its capacity to handle environmental jus�ce. There are also opportuni�es for engaging in global warming ac�on, especially in addressing human rights issues through administra�ve ac�ons, policy, and legisla�on. 37
