Indicator Area Interview outcomes 5. Gender equality in external work Good practice identified • Strong practice across NHRIs of providing, and reporting on, activities that focus on gender across multiple NHRI functions – complaints, awareness-raising, capacity-building, inquiries, public policy and legal advocacy and intervention, monitoring and making recommendations. • Partnering with others working on gender equality when resources are short. • Ensuring that gender is mainstreamed in activities and projects equitable participation, gender sensitive language, environments • Complaints data disaggregated data, female, male and gender diverse Gaps identified • Big gap in monitoring and evaluation processes. While reporting disaggregated numbers in some cases (particularly complaints data or participants in specific activities), there appears to be little focus on processes that will inform them of the impact of their activities on the progression of gender equality. Challenges identified • Additional Gap between awareness and practice. Even though gender is defined as binary by law and cultural context in some NHRIs, LGBTIQ+ related concerns are received and addressed.
