Do we encourage communities/groups, to whom our work is targeted, to report on the effectiveness of our activities? Do we have accountability mechanisms in place? Do we effectively report back to these communities/groups? What MEAL reporting do we do to our other external stakeholders, funders and partners? What feedback have we received about our reporting? What challenges do we face when reporting on the impact of our work? How do we use external independent evaluators to monitor, evaluate and report on our work? Learning Is our data collated and presented in a way that can be used across the NHRI? Do we reflect on the recommendations and observations gathered during our monitoring and evaluation practices? Do we learn from these recommendations and observations and incorporate the learning into our work, continually improving our practice? Does the stocktake include an internal debrief session with relevant staff? There are several tools you can use to take stock of the current MEAL capacity in your NHRI: • focus groups and other participatory processes • interviews • case studies • surveys • literature reviews. Involving key external stakeholders and NHRI staff can also be very useful. 15
