The team discussed following matters:- The condition put forward by the Sri Lanka Government to the BBC at the time of signing an agreement to report on the Commonwealth Heads of Meeting in 2013, is a violation of the right to expression. - The assassination of a foreign national by a Member of the Local Government Authority, Tangalle. - Illegal conscription of personal property. - Eruption of war memorials - Independence of the judiciary and the impeachment against Chief Justice. Joining the discussion the President of the Commission expressed the view that it is a compelling fact that certain limitations needed to the implemented to safeguard national security after 30 years of war but the Government should be cautious not to impose limitations that would violate rights of people. In addition, he stated that the matters coming under the purview of the Police cannot be investigated by the Commission but could be monitored. It was also mentioned that issues relating to personal property/lands were addressed by the Commission, specially, by holding mobile clinics in the Northern Province.
