Attention should be paid to the issue of securing jobs of employees.
The Department of Child Protection and Probation should, in collaboration with the Child
Protection Authority and the Divisional Secretariats launch an awareness programme at ground
level on the elimination of child abuses and the protection of child rights.
These Homes should provide safe living conditions to child inmates
Following are the proposals dated 10.05.2013 submitted to the Commissioner of Probations,
Ratnapura following the inspection carried out on 31.01.2013of the Male Child Probation Home of
Muruththettuwa.
o Reports revealed that children belonging to different ethnicities live in this Home and as such
the language policy should be implemented this Home which is situated in the Sabaragamuwa
District.
O Even though the Home had basic needs, facilities such as a changing room, a study room, a
library and a computer room should also be provided.
o The staff should be provided more formal training on child rights and safety of children.
o It is important to take necessary steps regarding non-schooling children and the children with
special needs.
o The Department of Probation and Child Protection should, in collaboration with the Child
Protection Authority and Divisional secretariats, launch ground level programmes to eliminate child
abuses and protect child rights.
