Round Table with Media and
Publication of Supplement on Human
Rights Day
As part of the celebration, the NHRC organized three round tables with the media
and published supplements on 10 December, 2012. These supplements were published in the Daily Star on Communal Harmony and Human Rights, The Azadi,
Chittagong-based newspaper on Communal Harmony and Human Rights and the
Purbacon, Khulna-based newspaper on Human Rights and Social Responsibility. Academics, human rights activists, NGO representatives, government officials, youth and
students attended the discussions. These
supplements covered messages on the importance of communal harmony in the
country. The discussion emphasized the
role of the State and the individuals to protect the rights of minorities in the country.
Production and Dissemination of
Promotional and Educational
Materials
During 2012, the Commission helped production and dissemination of the following promotional, awareness and learning materials:
The materials convey key messages on human rights, including quotes from both the
Bangladesh Constitution and the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. The materials
were distributed through workshops, seminars and local level campaigns of the stakeholders.
NHRC Visibility in the Media
During the reporting period, the following
statements and press releases were sent to
the press houses and this created excellent
coverage of NHRC events both in print and
electronic media. In 2012, the NHRC issued
21 press releases for the media on different
issues.
