Materials: Cartolina and pentel pen Time: 30 minutes Instruction: Form 5 groups consisting of 5-7 members. The group shall have members who will act as senior officer soldier, soldier, soldier’s closest friend, and co-workers. Each group will be given 5 minutes to role-play a situation wherein an employee will undergo an overwhelming experience at the workplace and will manifest actions that are considered to be a behavioral emergency. The group will show how to handle the situation. Reasons for Behavioral Emergencies: • Mental illness • Substance abuse • Other medical conditions that can cause the type of mental changes resulting a behavioral emergency include low blood sugar related to diabetes or hypoglycemia, hypoxia, a traumatic brain injury or reduced blood flow to the brain and central nervous system (CNS) infections such as meningitis • In general, all possible physical medical conditions or substance abuse explanations should be ruled out before blaming a behavioral emergency on mental illness, especially in someone who does not have a previous diagnosis or history of other symptoms Defusing a potentially dangerous situation A potential violence crisis can be thought of as occurring in several stages, each with its own set of recommendations for defusing danger.
