The Republic Act 6975 entitled An Act Establishing the Philippine National Police (PNP) under a reorganized Department of the Interior and Local Government and Other Purposes, as amended by RA 8551 Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998 and further amended by RA 9708, states that their functions include: 1. Law enforcement. 2. Maintaining peace and order. 3. Preventing and investigating crimes and bringing offenders to justice. 4. Exercising the vested powers from the Philippine Constitution and pertinent laws. 5. Detaining an arrested person for a period not beyond what is prescribed by law. 6. Implementing pertinent laws and regulations on firearms and explosives control. Training Module on the Right to Mental Health for the Security Sector 1. To secure the sovereignty of the state and the integrity of the national territory. 7. Supervising and controlling the training and operations of security agencies. The security sectors such as military and police officers are exposed to traumatic events as part of their occupational roles. Objectives: This project aims to cultivate a healthy workplace by mitigating job burnout in the security sector and at the same time focusing on mental health as a human right. It capacitates the security sector to attend behavioral emergencies and crisis. It aims to: a.) Promote staff development by educating the service providers of the concept of mental health and work-related stress b.) Improve productivity by helping the service providers deal with work-related stress particularly job burnout through evidence-based interventions c.) Enhance the well-being of the service providers to contribute to organizational growth d.) Train the service providers to handle crime victims in the aftermath of behavioral emergencies, crisis events, and mental health crisis 4
