NHRC believes that this is a gross violation of human rights and it is important to identity the reasons for this horrible fire incident and punish those who are involved in this. NHRC recommended the Chittagong Port Authority to compensate the victim’s and their families. People of 3 villages are in need of food and drinking water in Bandarban The National Human Rights Commission has ordered not to harass people of Mro and Tripura communities in three villages at Lama upazila in Bandarban. A rubber company was allegedly trying to grab the land of the Mro and Tripura communities. The Commission asked the Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and the Bandarban district Deputy Commissioner to take appropriate legal action against those involved in setting fire to 350 acres of land at Langkom Para (Mro), Joychandra Para (Tripura) and Rengen Para (Mro) on April 26. NHRC asked the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban to submit a report on the actual situation after investigating the fire incident. The Secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry asked to provide the victims with enough food and water and other assistance, including building houses if necessary. It also asked the Bandarban Superintendent of Police to take necessary measures so that the law and order situation did not degrade and the victims did not face any harassment in the future over the incident. A copy of the order was directed to be given to the Divisional Commissioner, Chattogram, for overall supervision of the matter and to take necessary action. Human rights situation of older persons in Bangladesh: A review of existing healthcare systems and ongoing academic curricula NHRC with the support of HRP of UNDP has been undertaken this study to identify and review the healthcare services for older persons and inclusion of ageing and elderly care issues in the different general and professional academic curricula of Bangladesh and suggested to fill up the knowledge gap on these burning issues. Following recommendations were offered to help government to determine and formulate policies for the welfare of OPs in Bangladesh: 1. Inclusion of ‘Geriatric Medicine’ in ongoing medical academic curriculum of Bangladesh to improve the healthcare services of OPs immediately. 2.
