The Commission will continue to urge the Government to ratify/accede to the remaining core human rights treaties as well as continue its engagement with the relevant agencies particularly by providing them with input and proposals for their consideration and future action. 4. CONVENTION AGAINST TORTURE AND OTHER CRUEL, INHUMAN, OR DEGRADING TREATMENT OR PUNISHMENT (CAT) Malaysia has yet to accede to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT)4, and in the recent Universal Periodic Review (UPR), although there were recommendations for our accession to the CAT, the Government reiterated that they were not in a position to immediately sign and ratify the CAT. The Government however acknowledged the training given by the Commission to law enforcement personnel to ensure that their actions are in conformity with international human rights standards.
