Death of an Undertrial Prisoner Abhishek Sahu due to Lack of Treatment in Judicial Custody at Special Jail, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa (Case No. 42/18/2003-2004-CD) 4.200 In this case, the NHRC recommended to the State Government to pay Rs.1, 00,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased. In response, the State Government reported that there was a dispute among the next of kin of the deceased. The Commission thus directed the State Government to disburse the amount of monetary relief among those who were the actual next of kin of the deceased after a proper enquiry. The case has since been closed by the NHRC. 7. Alleged Custodial Death of Mugalia in Satna, Madhya Pradesh (Case No. 1996/12/1999-2000) 4.201 The NHRC had recommended to the State Government to pay Rs.3, 00,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased. The NHRC’s recommendations have been complied with by the State Government and the case has been closed. 8. Death of Convict Padum Sorren in District Jail, Bhagalpur, Bihar (Case No. 2848/4/2002-2003-CD) 4.202 The NHRC had recommended to the State Government to pay Rs.1, 50,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased. The State has complied with the recommendations of the NHRC. The case has been closed. 9. Alleged Custodial Death of Shanti Dashrath Naik due to Alleged Police Beating in Mumbai, Maharashtra (Case No.2021/13/2000-2001-AD) 4.203 In this case, the NHRC recommended to the State Government to pay Rs. 2, 00,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased. The proof of payment from the Government of Maharashtra is awaited. The matter is under consideration of the NHRC. 10. Death of Ram Chander in Police Custody at PS Sehramau, District Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh (Case No. 12975/24/1999-2000) 4.204 In this case, the NHRC recommended to the State Government to make a payment of Rs. 3, 00,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased. The recommendations of the NHRC have been complied with and the case has been closed. 11. Death of Undertrial Prisoner Vishal Krishna Madekar in Central Jail, Bangalore, Karnataka (Case No. 671/10/2001-2002-CD) 4.205 The NHRC had recommended to the State Government to pay Rs. 3, 00,000 as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
