Annual Report 2008-2009 4.6 Of the total number of 1, 03,996 cases disposed off during 2008-2009, 63,160 were dismissed ‘in limini’, while 17,587 were disposed off with directions to the appropriate authorities for remedial measures (Annexure- 3). 4.7 The Commission also disposed off 2,349 intimations relating to custodial deaths, 11 intimations relating to custodial rapes, 180 cases of encounter deaths and 14,844 other cases after calling for reports from the concerned authorities (See Graphs below). The other cases included alleged disappearances (35), illegal detention/ illegal arrest (2,527), alleged false implications (427), custodial violence (11), alleged ‘fake encounters’ (84), failure to take appropriate action (2,269) and complaints related to other alleged police excesses (3,823). The State/Union Territory-wise details are given in Annexure 5. 4.8 During the period under review, the Commission also dealt with a large number of complaints relating to rights of women. It disposed off cases relating to allegations of violating the dignity of women (100); sexual harassment (82); abduction, rape and murder (420); dowry deaths (448); dowry demand (125); exploitation (70); and that of rape (120). For details see Annexure 5. The Commission also disposed off 30 cases concerning child labour, 30 cases relating to child marriages and 156 cases pertaining to bonded labour.
