Roundtable on “Social Values & Human Rights: Role of Youths” On the occasion of human rights day 2019, NHRC organized a roundtable on “Social Values & Human Rights: Role of Youths” in collaboration with HRP-UNDP. The program was held in Pan Pacific Sonargaon. Nasima Begum, ndc, Chairman of NHRC presided over the discussion. Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Full Time Member of NHRC moderated the discussion. Professor Anwar Hossain presented the Key Note Paper. Kazi Reazul Hoque, Former Chairman of NHRC, Professor A. A. M.S Arefin Siddiq, Md. Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Secretary, Public Security Division of Ministry of Home Affairs, Professor Mr. Abul Maksud; Ms.Aroma Dutta, MP were the key discussants. The initiative of the National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh is to listen to the youth leaders from different ethnic groups has been welcomed by all and it has been said that it would bring some existing challenges in light and those should be picked up and addressed by the Commission. Youths from ethnic and religious minorities identified the existing challenges in their societies and made recommendations to the NHRC for steps. The highlights of the key issues and recommendations made by youth leaders are as follows: . Youth leader from Rakhine community in Patuakhali mentioned that population has declined from 50,000 to 4000 in the group. There is land grab- bing problem faced the Rakhine community and lack of respect from mainstream people. • by It has been recommended to solve the land grabbing issue and retain the population as well as to organize regular consultation in the region 28
