To collect empirical evidences on the implementation of NHRC guidelines on prevention of suicides in prisons. ii. To collect evidence on the implementation of the Model Prison Manual and Gujarat State Prison Manual guidelines on living conditions, health and hygiene in the four major prisons of Gujarat. ***** (2) The Commission approved research proposal titled ‘Status of the Manual Scavenging and Sewerage Water Workers in the Hyderabad Karnataka (HK) Region – Policy and Practice’ by Dr. Mohan Das K., Associate Professor, Department of Studies in Political Science, Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari, Karnataka on 11.10.2018. The duration to complete the research project in six months with a financial assistant of Rs. 4, 00,000/-. The scope of the study: To observe the various forms of the manual scavenging practices, the socio-economic conditions of the manual scavengers and the discrimination and exploitation in the society. The study will look into the laws, the Government machinery and organization working for abolition of manual scavenging in a Human Rights perspective. The study would helps the research institutes, academicians, the social action groups, the Government department to understand the existing manual scavenging practices and its dimensions and to take effective measures for total eradication of the practice. Objective of the Study i. To know the socio-economic status of Manual scavengers in HK regions from a Human Rights perspective. ii. To understand the various laws and policy legislations to eradicate the inhuman practice. iii. To assess the nature and magnitude of the problem of manual scavengers in the study area. iv. To assess the family livelihood condition including financial and non-financial aspects of Manual scavengers. v. To trace the impact of socio-economic condition of manual scavengers at work. vi. To attain the expected social relations and health hazards. vii. To asess their social status and professional recognition. viii.
