NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, INDIA academic institutions, NGOs, media persons, individuals etc. for spreading awareness about the importance of human rights, including NHRC interventions and recommendations. It was also uploaded on the NHRC website with links to the data on number of complaints received, disposed of and under the process of disposal. The copies of the Newsletters were also available for the visitors in the reception area of the Manav Adhikar Bhawan. 2.20 In addition to providing the information to media persons on some specific issues during the period under review, the M&C Wing invited them for the coverage of 09 Camp Sittings and Open Hearings/Workshops/ Seminars/Conferences of the Commission organized in different parts of the country. Apart from the various activities at the Headquarter, special efforts were made for the media coverage of all the NHRC Silver Jubilee events including their live coverage on Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR). Some of the specific outstation events for which efforts were made for media coverage were as follows: (i) NHRC’s One day Regional Workshop on‘Elimination of Bonded Labour’ in Collaboration with the Government of Punjab on 5 April, 2018. (ii) NHRC’s Two day’ Open Hearing and Camp Sitting at Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 26 -27 April, 2018. (iii) NHRC’s day long Open Hearing and Camp sitting at Arunachal Pradesh on 25 May, 2018. (iv) NHRC’s One day workshop on ‘Elimination of Bonded Labour’ at Kolkata on 20 July, 2018. (v) NHRC’s Two day’ Open Hearing and Camp Sitting in Bengaluru from 2- 3 August, 2018. (vi) NHRC’s Two day’ Open Hearing and Camp Sitting in West Bengal from 13-14 December, 2018. (vii) NHRC’s one- day workshop on “Elimination of bonded and child labour’’ with focus on illegal mining’ in Meghalaya on 8 February, 2019. (viii) NHRC’s day long ‘Open House discussion on ‘Rural Development and Human Rights’ at Manav Adhikar Bhawan, New Delhi on 27 February, 2019. (ix) NHRC’s Two day’ National Seminar on the ‘Role of Budha’s preaching in realization of human rights’ in collaboration with Sikkim University from 7-8 March, 2019. 2.21 In-house feedback mechanism Besides providing the news clippings on various aspects of human rights to the Chairperson on a daily basis, a `Weekly News Digest on Human Rights’ on issues reported in the media, was specially prepared for the feedback of the Commission, a copy of which is also sent to the library for others’ information. 2.22 During the year under review, more number of features were added to the ‘Weekly News Digest on human rights’ i.e. adding information on major issues of editorials comments in the Newspapers. In addition, two monthly folders were enriched i.e., ‘NHRC in News’ folder and ‘Human Rights News clippings’ folder by including more number of reports, articles and editorials for record, reference and research purposes. 2.23 Besides getting the NHRCs specific news clippings uploaded on the NHRC website, the display boards on all the floors of the Commission were also made more vibrant with the mounting ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19 9
