PART 3: RIGHTS AT RISK: KEY CHALLENGES FOR THE TOURISM INDUSTRY IN VIETNAM The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance’s Principles on Forced Labour Unfortunately, forms of modern slavery – such as forced labour, debt bondage and human trafficking – are prevalent in the tourism sector. No country is immune from these gross human rights violations, which affect all regions of the world.44 In 2018, the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (formerly known as the International Tourism Partnership) launched the Principles on Forced Labour. The aim of the Principles is to ‘prioritise action to address the primary drivers of forced labour within the hotel industry’.45 The three principles are: • • • Every worker should have freedom of movement No worker should pay for a job No worker should be indebted or coerced to work46 The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance has also developed free online training to assist hotels in identifying modern slavery risks.47 28 |
