Chapter 1 - Report of the Education and Public Relations Group Date Details 7 April Through the facilitation of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), the Commission had a knowledge sharing session with two experts from the United States, namely Dr Timothy Shah and Eric Treene, to exchange views and lessons on diversity issues in a multi-ethnic society. 11 August A delegation, led by Mr Ray Paolo Santiago, from the Ateneo Human Rights Center visited the Commission as part of its meetings with regional stakeholders. This was to discuss the development of children’s rights in the region and the opportunity to jointly pursue a child rights agenda in ASEAN. 24 September The Commission welcomed a delegation from the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, led by the Director General of its Investigation Bureau, Mr An Seokmo. Both Commissions exchanged experiences and best practices concerning the handling of complaints, issues pertaining to migrant workers, detention of migrants and social integration. The Commission also facilitated a visit for the delegation to an immigration detention centre in Malaysia. 16 October Representatives from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) visited the Commission to learn about the Commission’s work and engagement with regional human rights networks. 1 December The Commission welcomed a visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, Mr Dainius Puras and his assistant Ms Dolores Infante Canibano from the Office of the Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR). This was to discuss the issues and challenges with regard to the realization of the right to health in Malaysia, particularly healthcare for vulnerable groups.
