Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Commitments One major goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being. As part of this goal, the agenda emphasizes the importance of promoting mental health. This is in line with the right to the highest attainable physical and mental health standard outlined in the UDHR, the CRPD, and other human rights treaties. The right to health was first articulated in the WHO Constitution in 1948. The principles of the present Convention shall be: 1. Respect for inherent dignity and individual autonomy, including the freedom to make one’s own choices, and independence of persons; 2. Non-discrimination; 3. Full and effective participation and inclusion in society; 4. Respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity; 5. Equality of opportunity; 6. Accessibility; and 7. Equality between men and women 17
