Principal Legislations Section 2 of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999, Act 597 defines “human rights” as referring to the “fundamental liberties as enshrined in Part II of the Federal Constitution”. To date, Act 597 had been amended twice in 2009 by way of Act A1353 and A1357, in response to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI)] Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) recommendations in relation to SUHAKAM’s compliance to the Paris Principles. These amendments, in particular, relate to the transparency of appointment of members of the Commission.
