Chapter 3 - Report of the Research and Policy Development Group This was conducted to: (i) Raise awareness among education professionals, decision makers and the public in relation to challenges faced by CWLD in accessing primary education; (ii) Identify gaps in information on education for CWLD in order to build support for such education; and (iii) Build bridges between government agencies and civil society so as to promote participatory, transparent and accountable policy-making in the education sector. While much effort has been put into increasing the enrolment of children with disabilities, it is observed that more attention is being directed to the needs of children with visual or hearing impairment. The Commission conducted activities to gather information and identify issues. These included field visits to schools with integration programmes and to schools run by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to observe the teaching of, and lessons for, CWLD (Table 1); public fora on the right to education of CWLD; and teacher-training workshops.
