Likewise, the Penal Code criminalizes ‘criminal intimidation’.
In criminal jurisprudence, intimidation means threatening a
person with any injury to his person, reputation or property,
or to the person or reputation of any one in whom that
person is interested, with an intention to cause harm to that
person, or to cause that person to do any act which he is not
legally bound to do, or to omit to do any act which that
person is legally entitled to do, as the means of avoiding the
execution of such threat.48 The punishment for criminal
intimidation is imprisonment for a term, which may extend
to two years and/or fine.49 When the threat, constituting
criminal intimidation, is of causing death or grievous hurt or
of causing destruction of any property by fire or of causing an
offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life or
imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or
of imputing unchastity to a woman, the offence of criminal
intimidation is punishable with imprisonment for a term
which may extend to seven years and/ or fine.50
