HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. The class is divided into two or three groups comprising 6 to 8 students per group. 2. Choose a student to stand in front in each group. 3. This student is blindfolded using a handkerchief or any clean cloth. 4. The teacher arranged a pathway in the classroom with several obstacles that are not dangerous such as backpacks, small chairs, cones, etc. 5. At the count of 3, each group starts moving from the starting point to the finishing point, encountering obstacles along the way. 6. The members of the group must give instructions and guidance to the blindfolded student to avoid the obstacles so that he/she arrives safely at the finishing point. 7. The group that arrives first at the finishing point is declared the winner. 8. The safety of the students is monitored throughout the activity by the teacher. Discussion/Presentation 9. At the end of the activity, the students are given the time and opportunity to selfreflect on the activity they carried out. 10. For the purpose of the discussion, the teacher may use the questions below as a guide: i. What were your feelings as the blindfolded student when making your way from the starting point to the finishing line? ii. Did your friends help you make your way as a person who could not see? iii. If you see a blind person after this, would you help him/her cross the road, buy food, enter a place or perform other actions that are very difficult if one cannot see? 106
