HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. The teacher prepares paper clippings or pictures (depending on the creativity of the teacher) of the types of celebration in Malaysia and places them in a box. 2. The students are asked to choose a paper clipping/picture randomly from the box. 3. Based on the festival they have randomly choosen, the students are asked to talk about the festival. The information that can be shared includes: i. food or delicacies that are served during the festival ii. traditional clothes that are worn iii. traditional practices or preparations before and during the festival iv. date or month when the festival is celebrated 4. The teacher must encourage a harmonious discussion among the students regarding the various religions and ethnicities in Malaysia. 5. Steps 2 and 3 are repeated for the other students in the class. Discussion/Presentation 6. At the end of the activity, the students are given the time and opportunity to selfreflect on the activity they had just carried out. 7. For the purpose of the discussion, the teacher may use the questions below as a guide: i. What are your views on the festivals that have just been mentioned? ii. Has anyone visited their friends during their festivals? Conclusion 8. The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by stressing the rights of the child as well as human rights learned from the lesson. 9. The teacher stresses the values learned from the lesson. 10. The teacher can share additional information and specific facts concerning human rights. 94
