HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementing steps 1. The students are divided into groups of 3 or 4. 2. A representative from each group randomly picks a human right for the group to depict. 3. The human rights that can be included are: i. Right to life ii. Right to nationality iii. Right to freedom of opinion and expression iv. Protection against violence and exploitation v. Non-discrimination vi. Right to health vii. Right to education viii. Right to work 4. Each group is given 30 minutes to produce a drawing by using matches or toothpicks as the main material to work with. Discussion/Presentation 5. Each group representative is asked to present the product and meaning of the drawing that the group has created. 6. The drawings are displayed around the classroom (gallery walk). 7. After the gallery walk, the students are asked to provide their self-reflection on the rights of the child that have been discussed. Conclusion 8. The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by stressing the rights of the child as well as human rights learned from the lesson. 9. The teacher also needs to apply the values learned from the lesson. 10. The teacher can share additional information and specific facts concerning human rights. 74
