HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. Divide the students into small groups of 3 to 4. 2. Give each group a toilet roll. 3. Instruct the students to wrap a member of their group completely and as creatively as possible but using only the roll they have been given. They are not allowed to borrow any tissue from any other groups. 4. Give them 5 minutes and then the ‘mummified’ students are examined by the teacher. Discussion/Presentation 5. At the end of the activity, give the students the opportunity to self-reflect on the activity they carried out. You may use the questions below as a guide: i. Why did your group decide to wrap your group member like that? ii. Did everyone agree with the way the wrapping was done? Who determined the way in which the wrapping was to be done? iii. Did you wish to do the wrapping in a different way but did not have the opportunity to do so? Conclusion 7. The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by stressing the rights of the child as well as human rights learned from the lesson. 8. The teacher needs to apply the values learned from the lesson. 9. The teacher can share additional information and specific facts concerning human rights. 68
