HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. Divide the class into small groups of 4 or 5. 2. Give an ATHAM comic to each group. 3. Instruct the students to read and understand the story and message contained in the comic entitled ‘Access to Education’. Students have to read only pages 37 to 40. 4. Instruct each group to discuss and provide a conclusion to the story (from pages 41 to 42) depending on its appropriateness and the group’s imagination. 5, Remind the students that the conclusion to the story must convey a moral and positive message. 6. Instruct the students to choose suitable actors according to the characters in the story. 7. Ask each group to act out the last scene that it has devised. Discussion/Presentation 8. After the activity is over, give the students the time and opportunity to self-reflect on their recent performance. 9. You may use the questions below as a guide: i. Why did you choose the conclusion to the story that you have just acted out? ii. Is education important for every child? iii. What is likely to happen if a child does not receive an education? Conclusion 10. The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by stressing the rights of the child as well as human rights learned from the lesson. 11. The teacher also needs to apply the values learned from the lesson. 59
