HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Implementation steps 1. Divide the students into small groups of 2 or 3. 2. Ask the students to read the dialogue that is provided before working on the crossword puzzle. The dialogue can be acted out, if appropriate, depending on the creativity of the teacher. 3. Instruct the students to fill in each blank space in the word puzzle. Each group is given 3 attempts or a lifeline to ask other groups in the class for the answer to any question it does not know. However, the 3 questions must be directed to different groups (not to one group only). 4. Provide 20 to 30 minutes for each group to complete the word puzzle. 5. Ask the groups to exchange their answer sheets with another group to check the answers. 6. Give the answers to the entire class and check the mark for each group. Discussion/Presentation 7. At the end of the activity, provide an opportunity for the students to self-reflect on the word puzzle that they completed earlier. 8. The teacher can interact with the students to discuss the definitions of human rights terms used in the word puzzle. Conclusion 9. The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by stressing the rights of the child as well as human rights learned from the lesson. 10. The teacher also needs to apply the values learned from the lesson. 11. The teacher can share additional information and specific facts concerning human rights. 51
