Shadow Report to Treaty Bodies: JAMAKON drafted one shadow report on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, submitted it to the concerned Treaty Body. Apart from these, a number of consultation meetings were held for preparing shadow reports on CEDAW and ICESCR. Establishment Committees: of Thematic In order to ensure better coordination in relation to matters of strategic priority, JAMAKON formed 9 thematic Committees, comprising members from civil societies, NGOs, UN Bodies and state actors, to implement its strategic plan. These Committees aim at helping JAMAKON to fulfill its mandate given by the NHRC Act, 2009. The committees have been functioning since 2011 and contributing to promoting respect for human rights by addressing the needs of specific groups that are victims of human rights violations. These committees are rigorously working for better promotion and protection of the rights of children, women, migrant workers, garment workers’, disadvantaged communities, minorities and marginalized and ethnic groups (both hill and plain land) and ensuring economic, social and cultural rights. Research on Human Rights Issues: JAMAKON conducted a number of studies in 2014 on international human rights treaties, national legislations and policies in order to identify challenges in implementation at the domestic level. The research findings helped JAMAKON to make recommendations to the Government to ensure the effective adoption and implementation of international human rights treaties as well as adoption or amendments of national laws. Capacity Building and Awareness Raising Initiative: In 2014, JAMAKON organized training programmes for Government officials, Police, Human Rights Defenders, NGO Representatives, Journalists, Judges, Lawyers, Students, Community Facilitators and Local Government Representatives. The training covered a wide range of issues, such as reporting to treaty bodies, ToT on human rights, women, children and minority rights. As a result of this intervention, motivation and skills were developed among the training participants so that they were better equipped to protect human rights. In addition, JAMAKON implemented a campaign program on human rights messaging at national and local level by using different modes of public communication, including public service announcement. JAMAKON regularly organized seminars and workshops on different thematic issues at national and local level, including on the rights of minorities, women’s rights, child rights, food security, garment workers’ rights, etc. Enhancing Partnership: JAMAKON has built a strong partnership with NGOs, private sector, international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and other civil society organizations (CSOs). This partnership helped to develop the capacity of human rights defenders, Government officials, judges, police, NGOs representatives and students concerning human rights.
