JAMAKON Conference on Human Rights in Barguna JAMAKON and Fareea Lara Foundation organized two-day long Human Rights Conference and Workshop at Barguna. The Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, the Full Time Member, and the Honorary Members and other high officials of JAMAKON attended in the programme. The key issues discussed in the workshop were: • • • • • Raise awareness to stop child marriage; and • Correlation amongst child marriage, dowry and domestic violence and consequences thereof. A series of working sessions were held to cover the above issues. A total numbers of 225 participants including students, teachers, lawyers, NGOs workers, parents, government officials, people of the minority community and journalists participated in the sessions. At the end of the program a memorandum of recommendations was handed over to the Chairman of JAMAKON. Role of JAMAKON in protecting human rights Effective implementation of law in protecting rights of the people; Legal framework for protection of women and children; Importance of mass awareness to stop violence against women and children; The Hindu Marriage Registration Act; JAMAKON organized four roundtables in Dhaka, Barisal, Rangpur and Sylhet on Protected Human Rights for Prosperous Lives. The roundtable discussions were held on 21 November 2014 in Barisal with the Daily Ajker Paribarton, 27 November 2014 in Dhaka, 30 November 2014 in Rangpur with the Daily Poribesh and 3 December 2014 in Sylhet with the Daily Uttor Purbo. The objective of the programs was to stimulate discussion on human rights and livelihood issues and also to publish supplements in the newspapers on 10 December 2014. A total 120 participants from the Government, NGOs, Media, Academic, Human Rights Defenders, and Lawyers participated in the roundtable. On 10 December 2014, five supplements published in the Daily Star, the Prothom Alo in Dhaka the Daily Uttor Purbo in Sylhet and the Daily Ajker Paribarton in Barisal and the Daily Paribesh in Rangpur. Through these supplements, message on importance of protected human rights and prosperous lives reached around 1.2 million readers in the country.
