Meeting of the thematic committee on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Autism Members of Thematic Committee on Persons with Disabilities and Autism Meeting of this committee was held on 05 August 2021, NHRC Chairman and Chair of this Committee Nasima Begum, ndc presided over the meeting. The members of this committee expressed grave concern on some discriminatory comments about PWDs in a drama telecasted in Channel-i. The actors sought apology for the comments. But the members of the committee said that this type of negative comments about PWDs is a punishable offence according to the section 37(4) of PWDs Rights and Protection Act 2013. Following decisions were made in the meeting: (a) Sending letter to the concerned authority to ensure the rights of PWDs in all contents of electronic and print media. (b) Sending letter with recommendations to give priority to the PWDs for Covid vaccination. (c) Sending recommendation to government to ensure accessibility of PWDs to all the public places and services by preparing a draft act of accessibility. Md.
