Some Key Commission Meetings
41st Commission meeting
On August 8, 2016, the 41st Commission
meeting was held at the conference room of
NHRC. NHRC Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque,
Members Md. Nazrul Islam, Begum Nurun
Naher Osmani, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury,
Akhter Hossain, Meghna Guhathakurta,
Banchita Chakma, and Secretary Hiranmaya
Barai attended the meeting.
In this meeting, thematic Committees were restructured and the Commission decided to open
regional offices in two districts primarily. In addition, Commission decided to organize consultations to set priorities with people from different sectors including media, NGOs etc.
42nd Commission meeting
On 22 August 2016, 42nd Commission meeting was held in presence of all members of the Commission. It was decided that two Regional Offices of the National Human Rights Commission,
Bangladesh would be opened shortly in Rangamati and Khulna as part of expansion of its activities.
Commission formed a Full Bench of hearing complaints comprising Chairman and all the members of the Commission to handle the sensational cases. Two more benches comprising of four
members to handle general complaints were also formed.
The Commission also took decisions on preparing an Annual Work Plan to be implemented within
the remaining period of 2016 to create awareness about human rights and specifically against
terrorism. The commission also decided to update and modernize its complaint management
system, by making it online and automated which would be integrated with a live video conferencing device. This would enable NHRC to deal with human rights violation cases more aptly, quickly and strongly.
44th Commission meeting
On 18 September 2016, the 44th commission meeting was held at conference room, NHRC. The
commissioners discussed about finalizing recruitment rule and annual work plan, progress of
setting out with regional offices in Rangamati and Khulna which were expected to come into operation from October 2016 etc. The commission also decided to make a 100-days plan for monitoring the implementation of the decisions taken till that time since its inception (on 2 August 2016).
The meeting also discussed about the recent inferno occurred on 10 September 2016 at Tampaco
and decided to form a high level committee headed by NHRC member Md. Nazrul Islam to identify if there was any negligence of the owner and relevant government actors behind the incident.
