HUMAN RIGHT COMMISSION OF SRI LANKA - Annual report 2020
and trust in the institution, and also illustrate its ability to respond to the
needs and concerns of the people of Sri Lanka, which is integral to its
effectiveness.
UNHCR supported a project aimed at strengthening sub-offices through the
provision of infrastructure as well as capacity building. The objective of the
project was to enable and strengthen the access of returnee populations,
particularly vulnerable and marginalised groups, to the HRCSL to seek
remedies for human rights issues, including violations of fundamental rights.
The UNDP provided direct financial assistance for the HURIN system, the
social media campaign for the International Human Rights Day, formulation
of brand guidelines for the Commission, and the development of the new
website for the Commission. These activities enabled the HRCSL to
strengthen its capacity to effectively respond to the needs of the community
and increase its digital reach in order to be accessible to more people.
